Konop For Lucas County Announces Town Hall Meeting for
Young Democrats
Toledo, Ohio Jan. 18, 2006 Konop for Lucas County, in conjunction with
the University of Toledo College Democrats and the Lucas County Young
Democrats, will be hosting a town hall meeting today Wednesday, January
18th, at 7 PM at the University of Toledo Student Union (Room 2561).
The meeting is open to any Democrat or Progressive in Lucas County under
the age of 35.
The meeting's purpose is to provide young Democrats of all stripes a
forum to voice their opinions on the future of the local Democratic party
and, more importantly, the future of our community. The meeting's goal
is to work towards establishing a consensus as to the direction of the
party from the young people who will be its future leaders. Area media
are welcome to attend the event.
About Ben Konop
Ben Konop, a Toledo attorney and law professor, is a Democratic candidate
for Lucas County Commissioner. Konop, age 29, was born and raised in
Lucas County. He received a BA in History from Emory University, attended
Oxford University in England, and was awarded a Law Degree from the University
of Michigan. Konop has worked for local judges as well Congresswoman
Marcy Kaptur. In 2004, Konop was the Democratic Party Nominee for U.S.
Congress in Ohio's 4th Congressional District where he ran against 23
year incumbent Mike Oxley. He received nearly 42% of the vote in one
of the most Republican districts in the country despite being outspent
10-1. Konop lives in the Downtown Toledo Warehouse District and teaches,
amongst other things, Legislation and Election Law at the University
of Toledo College of Law.
About the UT College Democrats and Lucas County Young Democrats
The University of Toledo College Democrats aim to mobilize and train
the next generation of Democratic activists and to shape the Democratic
Party with voices from its youth. The UT College Democrats are a chartered
chapter of the College Democrats of America and an affiliate of the Ohio
Young Democrats and the Lucas County Democratic Party. The Lucas County
Young Democrats is an organization open to Democrats living in Lucas
County between the ages of 18 and 35. The organization is chartered and
affiliated with the Ohio Young Democrats and the Young Democrats of America.
Our goal is to stimulate and perpetuate the interest of young persons
in governmental and community affairs, promote political awareness, and
foster and perpetuate the ideals of justice and social welfare.
