Interview with technology guru Tim O’Reilly
Posted by on September 2, 2010
Chuck Nyren sent me the link to a interview with Tim O’Reilly, the Web guru, the person who first coined the term Web 2.0. Currently he is running the Web 2 Summit conference – wish I was there.
He was asked about the technical developments that will have the most impact in the coming years. His answer was “sensor driven applications” (i.e. ultra small devices that can communicate real time data). I see a great many of these being health related, used by older people and a lot of them working with smart devices.
The other comment that I thought was interesting was his thought that if the American Fed, for that read the Bank of England, had been able to process data as well and as fast as Google we would never have had the melt down of the financial markets. I often think that if the UK’s ONS included data about the economy from Tesco’s daily analysis of sales we would give a much better view of what is really happening in the UK.
Well worth the 2-3 mins to listen to the podcast. Dick Stroud
