A simple mistake that lots of copywriters make is not knowing the basic details of the product they are selling. If you don’t have a lot of knowledge about the product you will have a hard time trying to convince people to buy it. The reader will know instantly that you are trying to sell them something you know nothing about. This will obviously have a negative impact on your conversions as well as on your sales rate. So always remember to know everything about the product you’re writing about, right from the benefits to the features. Once you have learned all there is to know about the product you can creatively play up its benefits. When you’re sure of these points, you could easily be crystal clear to your prospect and give them a fair idea about it. One of the most important parts of your copy is the headline, so do not cut yourself short by writing one with little thought behind it. Obviously you need to command attention with it so people will stop and continue reading. Just to give you an idea about the headline, keep in mind that there is a very small window of several seconds to do all that the headline has to accomplish. Put all your efforts in crafting out a great headline because it will ultimately take you a long way. There are several approaches to writing headlines, and we cannot cover all of them here; but one often-mentioned approach involves putting your product’s biggest benefit in the headline. If you write a headline that works well, then your job will be much easier.

You need to remember that any sales copy needs to be easy to read and at the same time do a great job at presenting the product’s benefits to the prospect. This is exactly why you shouldn’t ignore the use of bullet points in your sales copy, where you can easily highlight the advantages of the product you’re talking about. Try to find sales letters written by real professionals, and then study them because it’s worth it to know how to write them well.
