Dear fellow Lucas County resident,
In the 1920’s, my grandparents arrived in Toledo from
Poland and Russia. Attracted to the area by the prospects of economic
prosperity in urban commerce, they were not disappointed. Upon their
arrival from “the
old country” they were greeted by the dynamism of our community.
Like many immigrants to Toledo, they worked hard, played by the rules,
and contributed to the growth of the city both culturally and economically.
After years of literally working their fingers to the bone (one of my
grandfather’s
first jobs was as a fish skinner), my grandparents opened their own small
business, raised a family, and sent three daughters to college. They
lived the American Dream courtesy of Toledo, Ohio.
Eighty years later our community stands at a crossroads. If my grandparents
arrived here in 2006 rather than 1926 would the same economic opportunity
by there for the taking? The sad answer is no. If we care about our
community and its continued existence we must collectively search for
ways to insure
that the promise of tomorrow matches the opportunity of days gone by.
That is why I am committed to serving as Lucas County Commissioner.
Working together we can advance a vision for our community that will
reinvigorate
the
economy and reverse the job losses and economic decay. Please join
me in my quest
to once again make Lucas County a land of opportunity for all of its
citizens. Our great community deserves and demands no less.
Sincerely,
Ben Konop |
